Tune In > Plug In > Rock Out!

The iRig and iPhone/iPod/iPad version of AmpliTube have been available for a few weeks now, but IK Multimedia just introduced a new version dedicated to the iPad.

There are 2 iPad editions available: AmpliTube Free: 3 effects, 1 amp+cabinet, 2 mics; expandable with downloadable gear a-la-carte; and AmpliTube: 11 effects, 5 amps + cabinets and 2 mics, priced at $19.99.

Compared to AmpliTube for iPhone, AmpliTube for iPad has more simultaneous stompboxes (4 instead of 3), the tuner remains engaged for tuning at any time without taking your hands off of your guitar, and it has a larger interface with all controls immediately available.

While there are a few feature differences, the sounds remain the same, and they are pretty amazing.  In the video below, John Herrington uses AmpliTube on the iPhone 4 to run through some of the lead licks and rhythm riffs from songs he played on the last few Steely Dan tours.

The leads for Reelin’ in the Years and Black Cow, the flanged rhythm guitar for Peg, and the intro for Don’t Take Me Alive all ring (or distort) true to the originals. You can catch John on tour with the Dukes of September Rhythm Revue (featuring Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, and Boz Scaggs) starting in August.
